Masaryk University, located in Brno, is the second-largest public university in the Czech Republic with its 40 thousand students and 9 faculties and a highly-regarded Central European university, which has been marked by a strong democratic spirit ever since its establishment in 1919. The ICT Brokerage Event 2009 is organized in co-operation with the Faculty of Informatics , which was established in 1994 to become the first faculty of the kind in the Czech Republic. The Faculty of Informatics derives research and development strategy from the complex concept of informatics as discipline which brings together study of the structure, behaviour, and interactions of both natural and artificial computational systems. Research and development at FI is carried out mainly in four research centres and twelve research laboratories. The faculty focuses its research activities on the principle research plan oriented to the issues of parallel and distributed computer systems, as well as on further fields of computer science, such as theoretical informatics, quantum informatics, database systems, image analysis and computer graphics, computer networks, computer learning and data search or natural language processing.
Brno University of Technology (BUT) is the second largest and the second oldest technical university in the Czech Republic. It was founded in 1849 for technical, agricultural and commercial specializations. In 1992 the Faculty of Business and Management and the Faculty of Chemistry were established. One year later the Faculty of Fine Arts came into being. In 1999 the name of Brno University of Technology was introduced. In 2002 the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science was divided into the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication (FEEC) and the Faculty of information Technology (FIT), and offers education in the fields of Computer science and informatics and Information technologies. At present BUT has 9 faculties. On the organization of ICT Brokerage took part faculties FEEC and FIT. Academic staff and students at FEEC are involved in basic and applied research in most areas of electrical engineering. Particular attention is currently paid to projects for the 6th and 7th Framework Programme EU. The scientific and research activities at the FIT are directed towards up-to-date research areas concerning the theory, methods and applications of information technologies.
Brno Regional Chamber of Commerce (Brno RCC) was established in 1850 and re-established 1990. Brno RCC has nearly 700 member companies, majority of members are SMEs. It is a member of Enterprise Europe Network. This chamber provides all services for successful business like: export services, law services, financial consultancy, customs consultancy, export promotion, seminars, conferences, and workshops. This organization arranges large sum of meetings and social evenings for entrepreneurs. Brno RCC is focused to innovation. It has prepared project with partners such as Masaryk University, Brno University of Technology, South Moravian Innovation Centre to support new technologies in Czech companies.
FIRST Innovation Park (FIP) is a consulting company supporting information and communication technology entrepreneurship and research. As a founding member of the global business network and as the ICT hub for the Framework Programme in the Czech Republic focused on internet services and digital content FIP helps SMEs to network and find foreign partners and resources from EU funds or private investors. Since 1999 it organised over 180 seminars, conferences, panel discussions & public meetings and realized 9 international projects (as one of few Czech coordinators). The 12 years tradition of publishing own blogs and a free newsletter resulted in recognizing FIP as one of the knowledge society pioneers and the creative class developers in the Central Europe.
South Moravian Innovation Centre (JIC) is an association established by South Moravian regional authority, Statutory City of Brno, Masaryk University, Brno University of Technology, Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry and University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno. The aim of the centre is to support innovative entrepreneurship in the South Moravian Region. JIC supports innovative companies, science, and research and helps to develop potential of able students. JIC also promotes links between research and businesses in order to facilitate transfer of technologies into practice. ICT companies represent half of the businesses present in the technology incubator. JIC also operates Microsoft Innovation Centre, which mainly supports young talented IT companies and thus promotes innovative development and entrepreneurship in the Czech Republic. JIC participates in RKO JM project with focus on innovative companies.
Transport Research Centre (CDV) is a public research institution which employs more than 100 experts in various spheres of transport. CDV carries on and provides projects, services and technical support mainly to the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic and other governmental bodies; conducts research and development for various transport projects and furnishes expertise and consulting services for public bodies as well as for private companies. The CDV is involved in a wide scope of international activities and became an integrated partner in European research community. CDV is a member of several transport research associations (FEHRL, FERSI, ECTRI, ELITE). Through its information activities, the CDV also helps to facilitate the dissemination and implementation of research results towards the public. CDV is involved in many transport projects of 4, 5, 6 and 7 FP EU and COST projects.
