| Organization Profile: | The Center for Advanced Studies and Research in Information and Communication Technologies & Society (ICT&S) is established as independent interfaculty research and study center within the University of Salzburg. The central vision is to face the challenges of the interrelationship between technology and society and deliver interdisciplinary solutions for the fields of business, technology, science, and policy. The Human-Computer Interaction & Usability Unit of the ICT&S Center deals with specific questions related to design, development, and evaluation of existing and emerging interaction systems and environments. In particular the HCI & Usability Unit studies and develops enhanced forms of user experience, is engaged in studying and developing new interaction paradigms, studies, develops and applies interdisciplinary methods and tools for experience centered design, studies different interaction contexts and enhances them by optimized experiences, and applies user centered methodologies towards innovative and optimized applications. Staff members with various interdisciplinary backgrounds (e.g. computer science, psychology, communication science, design, information management or sociology) are working on the following research streams: Mobile Interfaces, Emotional Interfaces, Ambient Interfaces (in particular Ambient Persuasion), Social Interfaces (with a special focus on Human-Robot Interaction and User Generated Media), Advanced Interaction Techniques and Contextual Interfaces. On the overall level we deal also with User Experience (e.g. meaning of user experience, specific user experience factors), Methods and Tools to capture and evaluate contextual interaction characteristics as well as Designing and Prototyping specific user experiences. | |
